The unknown suspect was walking around the 2100 block of West York Street on Monday, Dec. 19, when he got into a "brief" verbal argument with a neighborhood resident, detectives said in a statement.
The gunman then approached the resident's house and fired several shots into the front door, hitting the youth, officials said. The extent of the child's injuries was not immediately clear.
The suspect is still at-large, police say. He's described as a black man with a "light complexion," and was last seen wearing a green jacket over a grey hoodie with blue jeans, and tan boots.
He is believed to be armed with a silver, semi-automatic handgun, they added.
